September 18, 201411 yr So I've started the process of swapping out my Parity for a much larger disk, and while it's precleared I've found files to be missing. I've detailed the drive issues previously http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=34660.0, but in essence it's not red-balled but it's going to. This stopped me doing the parity/new swap at the same time. What I'm thinking/wondering is: - Can I finish my parity drive preclear. (Not mounted it yet obviously) - Before it does a parity scan switch in the old parity with the duff disk - Then do a parity scan and in theory this should run the array as if the old drive had become the old parity? I seem to think I can, but I've got myself a bit confused over the whole thing recently. Unraid 5.0.5 Pro every SATA slot on the motherboard and expansion card is full so I couldn't just stick it on a spare port and do it all that way.
September 18, 201411 yr Let it finish the preclear. There is a feature called swop-disable. Which lets you use your old parity to emulate the failing/failed data drive and replace your new drive in the parity position. A few weeks ago another user done the same thing. Search the forums, I seem to think it was BRIT who done it.
September 18, 201411 yr Yes it was BRIT. Here is the link to his post: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35014.msg326356#msg326356
September 18, 201411 yr Author Ah swop/disable that's the one I was thinking I couldn't do as it was reballed, but BRiTS explanation was the one I recall. Thank you!
September 19, 201411 yr Author So what do I do if UNRAID say's 'Too many wrong and/or missing disks!' I've precleared my new 6TB parity and swapped in the old 2TB parity to replace the dying disk... Now I'm stumped
September 19, 201411 yr I have never done it, follow what BRIT said on his post. There are also instructions on the wiki.
