October 17, 201411 yr So if you go to \\Tower\Media\DVD you do NOT see all of the DVDs in the \Media\DVD subfolders on various disk in the share? ... Do you by chance have any Includes or Excludes set in either the Global share settings [settings tab - Share Settings] or in the individual shares?
October 17, 201411 yr Author Correct. It only shows a few of the total files. The ISO folder is where the majority of files are (1200+) and there is nothing in there. The other folders all have about 5-10 files where they should have 20-40. I tried moving some files from the drive folders to the media share directly, and they wouldn't copy. I haven't changed any settings since the server was last up and running, so unless something got thrown off during all the changes, they should be the same. I'm out of town for the weekend and won't be able to check till Monday though. Let me know if you have any other ideas in the meantime. Thanks
October 17, 201411 yr I have to wonder if your file system got corrupted along the way. Even if the shares are excluded from certain drives, the READ behavior should still include any content on other drives -- I just asked to be sure nothing had changed in that regard. When you get home and can confirm your settings, etc., you should send Limetech a note with the details of this issue.
October 20, 201411 yr Author Enable User Share: Yes Included Disks: None Excluded Disks: None So who do I contact at Lime Tech? Is there anyway to test/rebuild the file system myself?
October 20, 201411 yr I'd send Tom a note at: [email protected] Give a brief overview of the issue, and a link to this thread so he can see what all you've tried.
October 21, 201411 yr Author ok, typing that up now. I just reread one of the questions below and noticed I don't have a "Media" folder in the user share (I can't recall if it was like this originally). Folder structure is as follows (unraid is z drive) z:\DVD z:\ISO z:\MKV z:\TS z:\TV Shows and under My Network Places, it is: \\tower\disk1\Media\DVD \\tower\disk1\Media\ISO \\tower\disk1\Media\MKV etc. Am I missing a level here? Should all the folders on the z directory be subfolders of a "Media" folder?
October 21, 201411 yr Yes, that structure does NOT match what you've been saying !! If you access \\tower\DVD you should see all of your DVDs; \\tower\ISO should show all your ISOs; etc. What you had indicated was that you had a Media share, with all of the other folders being subfolders within that share ... but it seems that's not the case. Look VERY carefully at the folder structure on the individual disks ... i.e. look at \\Tower\disk1 and see what it shows; then \\Tower\disk2; etc. so you know for sure what your top-level folder structure is. THOSE are your shares. ... you may not have a problem at all (except incorrect references)
October 21, 201411 yr Author I believe "z:\" is a mapped network drive from the Media share. If I go under My Network Places everything shows up correctly. \\tower\disk1\Media\xyz \\tower\disk2\Media\xyz ... \\tower\Media\xyz I think I jumped the gun a bit.
October 21, 201411 yr Ahh ... okay. Then it is indeed not working correctly. Just to be sure, what do you see if go to \\Tower\Media\ ? Assuming you see the subfolders you expect, open one of those and see if it's displaying correctly. I'd assume it is NOT, based on the discussion to this point, but just want to be sure this doesn't have something to do with your network mappings.
October 21, 201411 yr Author \\Tower\Media\DVD \\Tower\Media\ISO \\Tower\Media\MKV \\Tower\TS \\Tower\TV Shows Would it be possible to rebuild the share by: 1. creating a new share "TempMedia". 2. move all the files from each disk folder to the "TempMedia" shared folder. 3. delete the "Media" share 4. rename "TempMedia" to "Media" Seems like that would be very time consuming, but it would provide a solution. I was playing around a bit and noticed if I had a file in a "ISO" subfolder, I could not move it to the "ISO" folder on the user share, but I could move it anywhere else on the share.
October 21, 201411 yr Be VERY careful if you're copying files. There is a known BUG with copying files to a user share from within the array. e.g. if you have a file on \\Tower\disk1\Media\DVD and you copy it to \\Tower\Media\DVD (i.e. the user share reference) you will LOSE the data in that file. It will now be a zero-length file !! If you want to move files around, only use the disk references. e.g. in the above case, it's okay to copy a file from \\Tower\disk1\Media\DVD to \\Tower\disk2\Media\DVD
October 21, 201411 yr Author Well I think I have this fixed. I replaced Disk 12 that was giving the errors, and now everything is back online and working. I won't know 100% for sure until I can move all the data back to the new config, but it looks like it's all there. I'll mark this solved and open it back up if it turns out the problem returns. Thanks for your help
October 21, 201411 yr Very strange that one bad disk was causing the shares to all enumerate incorrectly -- but stranger things have happened. In any event, glad it's resolved
