November 2, 201411 yr I have a norco case with 12 bays. I would like to add a new drive and start a preclear without rebooting and interrupting my family TV. Is this possible? Its also been a while since I have added a disk. How can I be sure I am clearing the correct drive and not one that has data on it?

Many will, and since you have swappable bays, it shouldn't hurt to try. Preclear requires you to know the /dev/sd? designation for the drive you want to clear, and displays a confirmation screen that has the serial number listed. So, as long as you make a note of the serial number, you shouldn't accidentally clear a different drive. Preclear also has a pretty conservative routine to keep you from clearing assigned array drives, so theoretically you shouldn't be able to clear anything but non-array disks.
