November 15, 201411 yr I've got my Windows8 VM successfully running with GPU passthru now, but the VM is sitting on my cache drive. When SAB starts unzipping/repairing files, video I play inside the VM stutters a bit, which is annoying. I assume it's because they are both accessing the cache drive at the same time, but perhaps not. Regardless, I think I'll get better performance (and easier backup) by moving the windows VM to an SSD. Plus I had a 64GB SSD sitting in my (now unused) HTPC, so why not put it to use? I believe I have to mount the SSD outside the array (still looking for a post on how to do that), then get it to mount at startup of unRAID, and force it to keep the same designation so that I can consistently point to it from my XML. I'm using vmMan to manage my VM's, in case that matters. Finally, I'd like to move my docker setup to the same SSD. I currently have it mounted on disk1, but I'd like to move that to the SSD also, mainly to keep the 'extras' apart from the array, but also with the hope it will all run better, with no hiccups/stutters. So, that's my project, how to proceed?
November 15, 201411 yr This is the method I use: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=30496.0 I know others use it too. SNAP is another method but I haven't tried it as the above mentioned method in the thread works just fine for me. Gary
November 15, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the advice. I'd installed snap before you replied, but it doesn't seem to be working. Hard to say, as I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work. I'm currently rebuilding a drive I upgraded, so it will be a few hours before I can restart, or try much else.
