Unraid locks up

Hi everyone

Been running Unraid 6 for about a year now on temporary hardware, a small shuttle box with a couple of disks. This was mainly for evaluation purposes.

Now, after a physical move, i've moved my disks and USB key to it's permanent home. The system is a rack mounted box with the following hardware

- Q6600

- Abit AB9

- 2 WD RED 4TB

The system performed flawlessly on the shuttle hardware so i expected no problems on the current box, this however was wishful thinking. I'm experiencing total freezing or lock ups of the system after a power on time from 5 minutes to 5 days. I can find no correlation to any environmental factors.

Since moving to the new system and experiencing these problems I have:

- Removed a connected but unused rocketraid card from the system.

- ran chkdsk on the usb key

- switched to a new usb key and the latest version of Unraid 6 beta as of sat. 6.12.2014 (currently running unregistered as the evaluation period was to decide whether to buy a license or not, definetly going to as i have multiple TB waiting to be inserted into my box)

- Run memtest (passed)

i tailed the syslog from a restart and until the system locked up. -> http://pastebin.com/n6qUuVEi

I'm not qualified to decrypt the contents of the syslog but it does mention something having to do with the CPU, is it possibly faulty. The box used to run a PIV processor, i should have it somewhere for testing.

Ideas? What's my next course of action.

Almost certainly nothing wrong with your CPU.  As he said, this looks very much like issues others have been having.  It starts with a CPU stall, followed by CPU traces of all CPU's showing what each is working on.  They all appear to be in idling code, as were the other users.  The only difference is that they usually always had a CPU in reiser code, leading us to suspect a reiser problem.  That may have been a red herring, since they were doing heavy array activities at the time.  Sorry, no helpful ideas here either.

I have no reason for running unRAID 6 other than it being the "latest and greatest". Should i revert to version 5? Can i downgrade without any major problems?

Downgrading should be straightforward, as long as you haven't formatted drives with either of the new file systems, XFS and BTRFS.  I don't really have an opinion on whether you should or not, other than to say that V6 is still beta.
