December 13, 201411 yr Community Expert If I want to use an older drive as cache that is not a ssd should it be formatted as xfs or btrfs I am not sure that it really matters what file system you use if it is a single drive. You would use BTRFS if you think you are going to be used a drive pool, but if not then XFS is more mature and therefore probably more stable.
