March 7, 201511 yr For the last year or so (2? 3?), my unRaid has been limping along. There was a variety of troubleshooting I did attempting to resolve my poor performance just doing simple file serving (see my old posts if you are interested). But recently things took an interesting turn: 1) My GUI is no longer accessible by IP in my browser 2) My shares are still accessible 3) I can access the unRaid terminal by my board's IPMI function 4) Read/write performance seems to have improved (weird...) So I have a few questions: 1) How can I capture the syslog through the terminal? I have my flash drive shared so I can access files through Windows. Maybe there is something in there that will be revealing 2) I want to just do a hard reset on the installation. Start over. Maybe even jump straight in to the new version 6 betas? How can I do this without losing data? I don't have any plugins or anything special, I just want to start clean so I know moving forward if my problems are possibly related to hardware, and not software. I've got a few spare HDDs that I could use to backup my data, preclear all of my previously added-to-array drives, and then copy data back to the new array, but that is going to be a pretty time consuming process. Help on starting fresh? Any other ideas?
March 7, 201511 yr Have you re-booted the UnRAID server? This will normally resolve GUI access issues. As for moving to v6. As long as you assign the disks correctly you won't lose any data. The safest way is to only assign the data disks (NO parity drive) and confirm that you've got everything assigned correctly (if anything shows as unformatted, do NOT let UnRAID format it) -- and THEN assign your parity disk. Be sure you save your key file before you redo the flash drive -- you have to put the key file in the Config folder so UnRAID will recognize your license. The exception: IF you're using the free version of UnRAID, you'll need to buy a Basic key before you move to v6, as the free version is no longer supported (except in a capacity-limited trial version).
