Cannot save data to disk2

Featured Replies

I am using UnRaid ver. 5.0.6.

Parity and disk1 and disk2 are all 1.5Tb.

Under the "Stats" tab, it shows my array as 3Tb.

I have been saving my movie rips to my UnRaid server running Plex Media Server for play back.

Everything was going fine until today when disk1 became "full" I naturally assumed that data would simply be saved to disk2. My method for saving my data is this: On my Windows PC that I rip my movies I mapped a network drive on the UnRaid Server) "MediaPC\M" which sees the UnRaid array as 3Tb., I just move my ripped movies from the Windows PC to the mapped drive on the UnRaid sever.

Now when trying to copy my movies to the UnRaid server it starts to copy but about at the half way point it restarts the copy process; I let it try to copy for about an hour but it just restarts the copy around the half way point and never finishes the copy.

Additional info: A pop-up windows comes up and says that there is not enough room to copy the file. My array says I have 3Tb with 1.5Tb of free space...

I am not very Linux savvy and have minimal UnRaid knowledge. I think I set up the UnRaid server correctly but I won't be surprised if I have missed some procedure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and God Bless

What values do you have set for the Split Level on the share in question?  It could be that the value chosen together with the path you are trying to copy the file to are forcing unRAID to use a specific disk?

I only see 1.5Tb when looking under the "Shares" tab. When I look at the shred folder, "Media" It is set to Split Level 2

It seems like disk2 is not in the Shares....?

You can check which disks are included under the Golbal share settings, and under the individual shares.  If no values are specified for the include or exclude disks settings then all disks are part of the share.

With a Split level of 2, then any path that is deeper than sharename/folder1/ will be constrained to the disk on which folder1 was originally created.  This may not be what you want?

I'm not sure if I understand "Golbal share settings, and under the individual shares"

When I look under the "Shares" tab it shows the shared folder "Media" that I created and settings of split level 2 and Include disk(s) set to ALL exclude disk(s) set to none.

Does the "Allocation Method" matter, it is set to High-Water?

The only other settings I see that are related to Shares is under the "Setting" tab - Share Settings: which are set as: Enable users=Yes, include disk(s)=All exclude disk(s)=none

Am I missing something?

Should I change the Split level setting to 4?

There is another setting called Global Share Settings on the Settings tab.

The allocation methos is probably not relevant in this issue.

Increasing the Split level MAY help - if you gave the path you were trying to copy to it might be possible to give clearer guidance.

And what have you set for the 'minimum free space' setting on the share that is failing?

I don't have a setting called "global share"  I did forget to mention that I am running Simple Features GUI for the UnRaid server; not sure if that would dictate what particular settings are called or available.

As far as the path I'm coping to I will try to elaborate. I mapped a network drive (I.e. the UnRaid Server) on my windows PC to:" \\MediaSever\Media" (drive size shows as 3Tb with 1.5Tb available). If I map to "disk1" on the UnRaid server it shows 1.5TB as does mapping to "disk2" strange thing on disk2 is when I try to access the media folder via windows PC I get a message: "Media not available Access denied"

The only minimum free space setting is in general and not for a specific drive. It is set to 0kb

Basic recommendation is the setting for Minimium Free Space to TWICE the size of the LARGEST file you intend on writing to the share.  The reason is that Linux does not check to see if a file will actually fit on a disk before it starts the write.  It simply fails with an error when the disk fills up and the balance of the file will not fit.  (You may not have encountered this problem yet but you will eventually!)

The 'Split level setting' is the source of most problems of not getting files put onto another disk in the array.  Take a sheet of paper and write out your directory  structure as shown in the example and use that to see what your split level needs to be set at.

OK - under v5 it may have a different name, but there should still be share related entry under the Settings tab.

You mention Simple Features - this is incompatible with the 5.06 release!  Not sure what the symptoms are of having it installed.  If you want an enhanced GUI then you should try Dynamix instead.

That indicates that unRAID thinks there is a total of 3TB available to the share which is what you expect.

If I map to "disk1" on the UnRaid server it shows 1.5TB as does mapping to "disk2"
That makes sense as at that level you are mapping directly to the physical drives and by-passing the user share level.

The only minimum free space setting is in general and not for a specific drive. It is set to 0kb

As was mentioned the recommended value for this is twice the largest file you intend to send to the user share.

You did not give the path of the file/folder you are trying to create in " \\MediaSever\Media" that is failing.  If you told us what this is we could give feedback on whether the split level is likely to be causing you issues.

I thought Dynamix took over the Simple Features GUI. I have not had any issues with the Simple Features GUI so far.

I changed the minimum free space setting to 80Gb. After making this change I was able to copy files to disk2. So we're making some progress; but the movies that are on disk2 do not show up when I run the Plex app.

Sorry about the path info; I think this may be what you were asking for regarding the copy to path (This the windows mapping): Media\Movies\SciFi\    Here's the path on disk2: /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies/SciFi
