Switching ubuntu vm's from Xen to KVM

Featured Replies

I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to this virtualisation stuff so please i apologize in advance.

Under unraid beta15 and below i had a bunch of ubuntu vm's running my various apps. (I know docker can do this but its not what i want) so in Xen i set these up as PV virtual machines. Everything was running well till rc2 was released with no Xen support.

Thats fine, i've upgraded and now are tring to get my ubuntu vm's back. When i go through the vm guest setup page i select the old image and launch. Everything appears fine it loads grub then this is where it fails.

The screen just goes to blank and does nothing.

I've tried changing the cpu mode, the machine type with no avail. Are my pv ubuntu virtual machines i created under Xen dead or am i doing something wrong.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Paravirtualized ubuntu images will not work in KVM which requires hardware virtualization.  In theory you could manipulate the Linux kernel but I gave up trying and just re-installed my ubuntu server in KVM using the VM manager.
