July 9, 200916 yr Hi Guys! Do you guys think that upgrading to the latest beta version would be better? If so, is there a tutorial on how to upgrade the software? Thanks, Guigz To upgrade is very easy, and it does not require you to reload any of your data. Just download the current release (4.5beta6) and unzip it on your PC. Then, on your unRAID server, do a screen print of the "Devices" page. (Just so you know where all your disks are assigned) Then, using windows explorer, browse to \\tower\flash and rename the following two files: rename bzroot to bzroot.442 rename bzimage to bzimage.442 Then, copy from the unzipped folder on your PC those same two files to \\tower\flash. You should end up with a new bzroot and bzimage files. Next step, on the unRAID management web-page, stop the array, and then press the "Reboot" button. It will reboot on the new version of unRAID. That's it... it is that easy to upgrade... replace two files and reboot. The re-naming is to make it easy to revert back if you need for any reason. As noted in the release notes, you can also stop the server, move the flash drive to the PC, replace the files there, safely eject, and put it back in the unRAID server. I personally do it all from windows explorer from \\tower\flash. It is so much easier and I don't have to unplug anything. If for some reason your hardware did not work with the new files, you can easily rename the old files back to their original names, reboot, and be back to the 4.4.2 version. These same instructions are in the release notes included in the download, and also in the release announcement made here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3764.0 I made an earlier post with a bit more detail on how to upgrade here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2072.msg15127#msg15127 It goes into more detail why I had you do a screen print of your existing disk assignments, in case the hardware is scanned and assigned differently on a new version of Linux. You may need to use the "Devices" page to assign them back to their original slots in the array after booting the new release. Yes, there are some bug fixes in the 4.5beta6, but also a lot of new features in the 4.5series. I'd suggest loading the new version, especially if you were really on the 4.2 version as initially indicated. It had a few serious bugs that prevented some maintenance operations from working. Joe L.
July 31, 200916 yr Author Hi Again! Just reporting back to say that I am now convinced that UNraid is the solution that I need ( I was on the freeware version) and I will purchase the pro version as soon as I get more disks. Thank you very much for all the help, the online community is very helpful. I have to say that the speed at witch my issue was resolved (or that I had replies in this topic) was one of the factor that swayed me in purchasing the pro version! Good Job Guys! Guigz
