Upgrade Instructions

====================

If you are currently running any previous 6.0-beta

--------------------------------------------------

If you are running -beta9 or later, please use the Plugin system to upgrade your server.

To manually upgrade, it is only necessary to copy these files from the zip file to the root

of your USB Flash device:

- bzimage

- bzroot

- license.txt

- readme.txt

- syslinux/syslinux.cfg (see below)

As of -rc1 we have dropped support for Xen, please consider migrating your VM's to KVM.

The syslinux.cfg file has been changed to remove the Xen boot options.  If you have other custom

settings in this file you should instead manually remove the Xen boot options yourself.

Starting in -beta9, the plugin manager can be used to upgrade unRAID-OS.

Starting in -beta8, docker is configured to make use of a loop

mounted image file for its operation.  This may require you to

re-download your docker containers.

Starting in -beta7, if your Plus or Pro key is located in the root of

your USB Flash device you must move it to the 'config' directory in

order for it to be recognized.

The easy way is to use the built-in Update button.

* go to the Plugins page

* click on the Check for Updates button (wait until done)

* click the Done button

* click the Update button for unRAID server (wait until done)

* return to Main screen

* click on the Stop button (wait until ready)

* click on the Reboot button

I may be paranoid, but I start off every upgrade with:

- Open \\tower\flash

- Backup contents to a laptop/PC with a USB port in case reconstruction of the flash drive is needed

- Proceed with RobJ's instructions

I like to have an independent backup of the flash drive, just in case.  That said, I love the new Update functionality and have never had a problem with it :).

hey, i tried the "update" from plugins

i get this message:

inflating: /tmp/unRAIDServer/syslinux/make_bootable_mac.sh

mkdir: cannot create directory '/boot/unRAIDServer': Read-only file system

mv: target '/boot/unRAIDServer' is not a directory

flash write error 0, maybe full

plugin: run failed: /bin/bash retval: 1

and after this... nothing

Your flash drive has been mounted read-only .... This is usually a sign of file system corruption being detected on the flash drive.

You should shutdown, remove the flash drive and connect it to a PC where you should run a file system check to repair the corruption.  Disconnect the drive from the PC and put it back into your unraid system and boot up as normal.

The flash drive should now be writable, so you should now be able to perform the upgrade.
