June 29, 201511 yr Two Crucial BX100's 250gb SSD in BTFRS cache pool or a Samsung EVO 850 500 SSD for cache? Does it make that big of difference? (Both options are about the same price)
June 29, 201511 yr With the 2 250G drives, you would have a cache pool of 250G, with protection such that if one of the SSDs fails, you have not lose data. Very much like RAID1. With the 1 500G SSD, you have have a cache disk of 500G, with no protection. If the SSD failed, you'd lose its contents (if not backed up).

So as long as I backup my Dockers/VM's folder periodically I should be okay.... I will have to ponder this....
June 30, 201511 yr I use a pair of 500GB BX100 for my cache pool. They're quick, cool running and sip power. No regrets at all with them. I have them in one of these, so only 1 SATA power required, and it fills an otherwise empty external 3.5" bay: http://www.amazon.com/MB992SK-B-2x2-5inch-Mobile-3-5inch-Device/dp/B009QX4BPC/
July 1, 201511 yr I'd definitely use a pool => there's no reason to use an unprotected cache now that UnRAID provides the pooling option. Want more space? Buy bigger SSDs
July 2, 201511 yr Author Starting the process.... I'm going to sell the Antec 300. Ordered a Fractal Define R5... It'll be here Monday. I'm going to go with the BX100's. One to start... Another in a couple of weeks after I get the other parts....
