benefits from switching from plex plugin to plex container?

Im currently running Phaze's plex plugin and havent had any issues with it to date but i am curious if there are any benefits to moving plex to a container? Maybe the better question is, why would i want to move it from a plugin to a container.

Basically, the number one Docker advantage is that if Plex crashes, only the Docker container is crashed, not your unRAID server.  If using the plugin and it crashes, then it is possible that the unRAID server may be affected, may even crash too.

 

There are other security advantages also.  And you avoid the possibility of dependency conflicts with other plugins, conflicts that could affect the operation of your unRAID server.

 

Dockers provide application isolation.

App crashes, regardless of the OS, can affect OS stability.  Whether we are talking about Plex or any other app doesn't matter.

He's right though, in that the way I worded it, I overstated the likelihood of an unRAID crash, and the severity.  I've modified it.  A crash is still possible, but more likely is degraded operation, such as an emhttp hang, slowed operation due to repeated timeouts, etc.
