Should the parity drive be formatted?

Featured Replies

During my recent setup of a two drive unRAID server, I explicitly assigned both a parity and disk1 drive.  After starting the array, however, the Server Management Utility would only allowed me to format disk1 (i.e., there was no menu choice to format the parity drive).  Is that normal?  If not, what should I do now?  I've included some screen shots as attachments below.  Thanks.

P.S.  I originally included this question after a documentation suggestion and am afraid it got lost in traffic.

There is no need to format the parity drive.  What you have is working correctly.  Only data drives need to be formatted.

Exactly right.

Thanks!  I have two more 500GB drives on order and wanted to be sure everything was correct before moving ahead.
