SM X9SCM with 1.35V RAM, but only runs at 1.5V?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I know there are quite a few X9SCM owners around here, so I'm hoping someone can chime in.

I recently pulled the trigger on two kits of Crucial ECC Ram.  Here's the specific link: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct2kit102472bd160b#productDetails

While not officially on the SM memory compatibility list, the board does list 1.35V RAM as being compatible.  Since I don't have a V2 CPU, I can only run it at 1333, not 1600.  No big deal.  However, it's running the RAM at 1.5V instead of 1.35V.  The X9SCM also has no BIOS configs related to RAM voltage or timings.

I've ran a couple passes with memtest and it seems to be good, but I'm a little concerned running this RAM at a higher voltage than its designed for.  Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The JEDEC specifications for DDR3 specify a standard operating voltage of 1.5v.    As far as I know, all DDR3L (1.35v) modules are backward compatible, and will work fine at 1.5v with no issue, so there's no issue with using those modules with your board.

You are correct!

I emailed Crucial, and they confirmed that their 1.35V memory works just fine at 1.5V.  I just wish it could run at the lower voltage.  I mean, who doesn't like saving energy?  :)

Nice to confirm it, although I really didn't have any doubts.  I can't imagine any reputable memory company making modules that aren't JEDEC compliant  :)
