steve1977
Just seen the blog post, so it must be sufficiently tested now to try. I am curious to learn from others what's the best way to upgrade to Win10. 1) Creating a backup of existing 8.1 VM * Is it as easy as copying the VM .img file to the array. Later, I could copy it back and it would still work? * Can I "freeze" the current status and run my "old" Win8.1 and a separate Win10 VM in parallel (obviously they were no longer in sync, but I would have my Win10 built upon the Win8.1 one 2) Upgrading * Any experience better to upgrade via ISO or Win8.1 internal upgrade? AlexNathan345
Hi Steve, regarding your second question: I tried both (upgrading from Windows 7 VM and Windows 7 on a PC) and both methods worked fine and the same (the ISO is quicker as you don't have to wait for the download to finish). Just remember when upgrading the VM on unRAID to ONLY ASSIGN 1 CPU CORE before you start, otherwise the upgrade will fail. Afterwards you can enable as many cores again as you wish. Link to comment
steve1977
Thanks. So, you mounted the ISO and installed from the mounted ISO. Upon reboot, it just worked though the mount disappeared upon reboot? Link to comment
AlexNathan345
Can't remember whether I mounted the ISO through the VM settings in unRAID or within the VM but both should work. Once the system reboots it doesn't need the ISO anymore as all necessary files would have been copied to the HDD beforehand. Link to comment
