tomatoeshavefeelings2
ok, i'm new to unraid. i just started playing over the weekend. i got an i3, 16gb ram, 1x2tb parity and 2x1tb data disk all 7200rpms. i haven't gotten to using a cache drive yet. i got two vms, and have noticed it's alil sluggish... i know it's a qualitative assessment. anyway, i can measure performance or what-not? aptalca
Moving the image file to an SSD makes a HUGE difference in overall performance EDIT: Just realized that you don't have a cache drive, so I'm assuming you have the VM running on the data drive? That explains the sluggishness. Every time the vm image file changes, unraid has to calculate parity and write it to the parity drive. That process in itself is very slow. You should not put the VM image on an array disk. Either put it on a cache disk, in a cache-only share, or you can mount a drive outside of the array (preferably an SSD) and put it on there. The array disks in unraid should really be used for long term data storage, not for storing operating systems. Link to comment
mostlydave
The SSD outside the array is crazy fast on my system, I'd also recommend it if you're able to. Link to comment
