Supermicro X10SL7-F question regarding Power-LED

Featured Replies

I finally did upgrade my old LimeTechnology MD1500/LL server with a Supermicro X10SL7-F mainboard and several other new components. The system is working, nearly 5 times faster than the old build.

However, there's one small thing that I don't get to work. The Power-LED on the case does not work.

I did connect the Power-LED cable from the case to Pins 15/16 on JF1 (Front Panel Control Header). LE6 (Power Status LED) shows green when Power is on. Do I need to change the JLED1 (Power LED Indicator Header)? If yes, how?

The HDD-LED connected to Pins 13/14 on JF1 (Front Panel Control Header) does work.

Thanks in advance.

Supermicro's LED pinouts are pretty bizarre.  Try swapping the leads round.  I had a lot of trouble getting mine working, but got there in the end.

Basically, the power switch is at 1&2, and the power LED is at the opposite end before the gap.

Thanks for your answer.

Did swap as a test - without success. The correct pins are connected, just before the gap, next to HDD-LED. HDD-LED works perfect.

Seems that I need to live with a non-working Power-LED.

Thanks.

Is it a blue LED?  I do remember having issues with a blue LED not working on a Supermicro board.  I just swapped the LED for a green one, and that worked OK.  I think some blue LEDs have different voltage, and don't seem to work too well on Supermicro boards.

Just for grins, temporarily disconnect your HDD LED and then connect the Power-LED cable from the case to Pins 13/14 on JF1 (the HDD LED connection) just to confirm that the LED is actually working.

If it doesn't work with that connection either then it's likely just a dead LED.

Just to tell what I found out:

During upgrade of both servers (MD-1500/LL, MD-1510/LL from 2008/2009) to this motherboard I couldn't get the Power-LED to work. No chance. The pins on JF1 (15/16) didn't work.

But the MD-1510/LL had a 3-pin Power-LED cable. I could get this to work on JLED1.

Now I need to find a way to change the 2-pin Power-LED cable of my MD-1500/LL to a 3-pin Power-LED cable ;-)

Thanks for listening.
