pickthenimp
Hello, I have been having some unexplained issues with my unraid since upgrading to 6.0. I want to rule out my pos Sata controller and wanted to purchase a new one. Can anyone confirm this card works well with 6.X and doesn't require any tweaking? http://www.amazon.com/IO-Crest-Controller-Non-Raid-SI-PEX40064/dp/B00AZ9T3OU I am currently using: SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card (Silicon Image SIL3132) Thanks! RobJ
You might check this post and the subsequent posts. What concerns me is the similarity between the 9215 model number and others listed on the Marvell bug list. The 9215 is not listed there, so perhaps I'm being unfair to it. In addition to searching the 88SE9215, you might also search for the SYBA 40064, same Marvell chipset. Link to comment
pickthenimp
Thanks Rob. Is there an affordable controller that is known to work well out of the box that you can recommend? Link to comment

I'm going to have let others answer. 'Affordable' is a much lower number for me than others. My little cards are in the 10 to 15 dollar range. Link to comment

RobJ
There are very cheap cards at the low end, but you get what you pay for. The SI3132 based cards and the ASM1061 based cards are both very cheap, PCIe-x1 cards, but only 2 ports and may be performance/bandwidth limited. You can only have one SI3132 at a time, and it needs to be as 'brand name' as possible, to avoid data corruption from knock-offs. Mine is a Syba. Performance is OK, but probably limiting for fast drives and SSD's. The ASM1061 cards are very high performance per drive, but there are reports it's bandwidth limited when accessing both drives simultaneously. I haven't seen it myself, but my drives are generally slower. There are a lot of threads and advice about SATA controllers on this board. Link to comment
eknee1417
@pickthenimp, did you ever confirm if this controller card was the issue? I'm looking at getting it myself but don't want to get into debugging a controller card if needed. Link to comment
