Not quite sure what you mean by your statement.  What does "No DEFAULT orUI configuration directive " actually mean?  Does it mean you cannot boot, or you have no configuration carried forward or no GUI?  If you have a GUI then perhaps posting the file from Tools->Diagnostics might help with diagnosing your issue.

Do you have a backup of your USB stick from before the upgrade?

You may find some of the information from the [irl=D:\Dropbox\WebSites\QUICKLINKS\index.htm]wiki article[/url] covering the upgrade to be of use?

Thank you for your reply

Machine would not boot this error was on the boot screen.  Have went back to V5

This seems to have happened to a number of people, particularly if they have been doing manual upgrades with v5 and do not have a syslinux folder on the USB device so that the layout no longer conforms to the default.

The workaround seems to be to

  • Remove any existing syslinux files from the root of the USB drive
  • Copy the syslinux folder and its contents from the ZIP download of unRAID onto the USB drive
  • Run the make_bootable.bat file in administrator mode (Windows) or make_bootable.sh (Mac) to make the USB stick bootable
  • Check the BIOS settings are still set to boot from the USB drive.  On some motherboards it appears the BIOS tries to be 'helpful' and reset the boot order
