November 17, 201510 yr Guys i need some help. I have unraid 5.0 pro, it's been running smooth for years and I haven't touched it. I recently saw that I was running out of space on some of my drives so I just added a hard drive. Well I just go an error message that one of the drives is down to 2Megabytes and a file can't be copied into the folder, even though I have another drive that is 3tb empty. I'm surprised it wen't down that low because I added a new drive when I saw I was down to 5 gigs and now it's down to 2 Megabytes! What do I do and how do I fix this? *EDIT* I supposed it has something to do with the share setting. It is set to Split Level of 2, and min free space 0. It stores my shows. What do I do?
November 17, 201510 yr Check Global Share Settings and the settings for the specific share to make sure the new disk is included. Also see the wiki on User Shares and other settings.
November 17, 201510 yr Author Not sure what you mean. The drive has been added to the pool... When I go setting then share settings , under "share settings" it says "enable user shares: yes" Included and excluded disks text boxes are both blank *EDIT* When I click on Shares tab and then click on the size next to the corresponding share. I notice on some shares the new disk is not included! Why is that the case? and how come it is not automatically included on all shares when it shows in the array? And more importantly how do I make it be included with all the other drives in the share?
November 17, 201510 yr Having the min free space set to 0 is almost certainly wrong ..... It should be set to a value that is larger than the biggest file you are going to write.
November 17, 201510 yr Author Thank you. I never bothered to play with this. Do you think that's the cause of the issue? Is it safe to change that now for all shares? Also, is I want it to be 20Gig do I enter 20,000 or just 20? Will it screw anything up for the disk that has 2mb of free space? I am getting errors trying to copy files I just read the wiki again and it says if the included disks is blank than all disk should be utilized...
November 18, 201510 yr I'm afraid I cannot remember whether Unraid v5 supports suffixes to make it easy to enter value. But if you want 20gb then a value of 20000000 is the sort of value you want (ie 20 x 1000 X 1000). Changing the min free space will have no effect on existing files, only on new files and will affect whether files are created on the current disk or another disk (depending on the allocation method currently in use) What you haven't mentioned is the allocation method you have set for the share. What I suspect is happening is that you have the allocation method set to fill a disk before putting files on another disk. When you have min free space set to 0 it means that it will start to write to the current disk but if the file is larger than the free space left on the disk the copy fails. By setting the min free space to say 20gb then if there is less than 20gb free space left on the current disk it will create the file on another disk in the share.
