December 13, 201510 yr Hey guys. This doesn't necessarily have to do with unraid specifically, but my internet went down tonight and I noticed some strange behavior. For some reason, I cannot access my network shares or the unRAID web interface. Chrome shows me that it is a DNS error, but I don't understand why it would need DNS to access a local network server. Also, Windows says that it cannot access any of my shares. When I do the diagnostics, it tells me to restart my modem. On my Mac, it just won't connect. Any network gurus have any idea what is going on? Maybe something is acting up with my router also. EDIT - I replaced my modem and router today. I still cant access other computers on my network when there is no internet connection or unRAID at all.
December 13, 201510 yr How do you normally access your server, by name or by IP address? Can you ping it by name? Can you ping it by IP address? How does it get its IP address, static or DHCP? Does your Internet router act as a DHCP server, or a DHCP forwarder? Can your computers ping each other?
December 14, 201510 yr Author Yes, i got a new modem and router today and still cannot connect to unRAID. The ifconfig command shows that br0 is getting the ip address I have statically assigned to eth0. eth0 shows no ip address at all. I have tried taking down br0, and assigning the ip to eth0 but I still cannot connect. I did change my network settings to create a public bridge for my virtual machines prior to all this happening. I assume the br0 interface is stopping me from getting access to the services on the server.
December 14, 201510 yr Author To answer your questions: I usually access by either IP or tower in Chrome I can ping tower, and I get replies from 10.0.0.100, which was statically assigned to eth0 My router acts as a DHCP server for all other hosts on my network, except UnRAID The rest of my network is working.
December 14, 201510 yr You likely have conflicts with the static ip config you assigned. Try removing all static ip configuration.
December 15, 201510 yr Author I assigned br0 to 10.0.0.110 and eth0 from 10.0.0.100 to 0.0.0.0. When i go to 10.0.0.110 in my browser, I get access to the web interface. I cannot connect with tower/ anymore, nor will it allow me to connect if I assign br0 10.0.0.100. I want that to be the IP of my unraid server. Can somebody clear up exactly how this works? I can ping tower and get a reply from 10.0.0.100 I also get replies back when I ping 10.0.0.110 Why is unRAID using two different IP's? There is nowhere in any of the config files that I see the 10.0.0.100 IP address assigned.
