Featured Replies

Hi,

found couple of dozen errors in red in my syslog (attached) ie:

Dec 21 06:39:30 Tower kernel: ata8.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0

and

Dec 21 06:39:30 Tower kernel: res 51/40:1f:10:7d:d3/00:00:d4:00:00/e0 Emask 0x9 (media error)

and

Dec 21 06:39:35 Tower kernel: ata8.00: error: { UNC }

and

Dec 21 06:39:51 Tower kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sdh, sector 3570680576

and

Dec 21 06:39:51 Tower kernel: md: disk7 read error

and

Dec 21 06:39:51 Tower kernel: handle_stripe read error: 3570680512/1, count: 1

Does anyone knows what is going on and how to correct the problem?

Thank you

BobRock

Check smart reports for all your other drives, and assuming the rest are good, replace disk7 and let it rebuild from the rest of your disks. Disk7 is definitely starting to have issues, hopefully all your other drives are good. Now would be a good time to make sure your backups are current. When was the last time you did a parity check? I wouldn't do one now, as it could cause more issues.

Thanks Jonathanm

I did a parity check just hours before the error showed and everything was fine.

Ditto for drive 7...time to get a replacement.
