January 16, 201610 yr In anticipation of the new version I have a 6TB WD RED preclearing to be used as second parity drive :-) So JonP, take your time, its gone take a week :-) I am also thinking of requesting a consultation (Limetech Services) call, I have a second server setup with license and am preclearing an 8TB Seagate in there, more to be added. I want to use this box as my backup system, to be loaded on site and then moved to an off site location. My thoughts are to set it up in such a way that new files are sent to the backup system: - changed files may be overwritten, - deletions should not be replicated to the backup, - removed directories should not be removed, - I would sync the user shares, -not- the disk shares, - there would be no need to use this system for anything else then emergency restore.. - I have a vpn server running on my location (ipsec running from my mikrotik) that I need to connect to from the unraid box.. I know I will be able to get it to work but frankly I am not sure I want to spend the time... Jonp: Is this something I could buy-in thru Limetech services ?
January 16, 201610 yr Lol!! You are going to be publicly flogged for suggesting we take our time on 6.2. ;-) If you sign up for a services session, we can probably get this going for you, but I would probably set you up with crashplan for the backups. I'm also not sure if we could get all this done in 1 hour, but I am confident we could help you out.
January 16, 201610 yr Crashplan at 40 tb ? Why not? You'll seed the backup locally then move the system offsite for incremental backups. Why should the amount of data matter?
January 16, 201610 yr Author Tried using amazon drive, went terribly slow after 1tb... Am at 100mbit fiber...
January 16, 201610 yr Oh, we wouldn't backup to their cloud, we would configure system A to backup to system B like you wanted. Crashplan will allow for that.

JonP: The 6TB is precleared and ready for 6.2 :-) (6tb preclear in 3 passes takes me a week) The 8TB is preclearing EXTREEEEMELY slow on the other machine.. I terminated it yesterday to double check the bios drive settings.. They were ok and I restarted it.. Is going to take at least one more week before that is done...
February 7, 201610 yr Author Both the 8TB's are now installed and ready in the backup system, I have installed a Windows 10 VM on both of my systems to have directly linked to the crashplan running on the servers itself, saves me from editting the ID file every time.. I have installed crashplan on both systems and have now set up the following situation: My own pc's and also my two Windows 10 VM's running on the primary unraid system are backing up towards the primary unraid system (backups are stored in a non-cached user share called "Backup"; My primary unraid system is backup up towards my secundary unraid system (it is backing up all user shares). I think it is all working.. JonP: This means I woud like to use our planned limetech services session to double check my configuration, instead of setting everything up I would like to give this time to you to give my systems the once over, checking if you see anything wrong / improvable on it.. Kind of a sanity check..
