Raid Configuration?

Featured Replies

Greetings Unraiders,

Can someone please tell me how Unraid handles storage.  Ive noticed I have a 5 disk array + a parity drive.  However it seems as if Unraid just fills up one hard drive at a time, which means performance wise I am not getting raid speeds....

Is there a way to change this, can I set unraid to the raid type I want for instance Raid 10 or raid 5, if not is it 0+1? Also how do I get it to act as a raid and use all hard drives to increase performance

unRaid doesn't work like that.  It doesn't stripe writes across multiple drives.  Instead each drive has its own separate file system.  With single parity, its kinda like RAID4, but without the striping.  Net result is that read speeds will max out at what a single drive can handle

As far as filling up a single drive before moving onto the next, you can change the allocation mode to something like Most Free and it will store the files on whichever drive has the most free space
