January 22, 201610 yr I've replaced a 2tb with a new 4tb drive and am going through the data rebuild process. It's now gone past the 2tb point and I'm wondering why unraid doesn't know there is no more data to be rebuilt. It seems like there is going to be another couple of hours of drives spinning for no purpose.

Unraid doesn't know about any data files, it only recreates the bits that were on the old drive, and sets the rest of the bits to zeros so parity is correct. If it didn't set the last 2TB to zeros, then if a different 4TB drive failed the bits that were randomly set on the rest of the 4TB that was expanded wouldn't be valid to rebuild the failed drive.
