SMART warnings. Should I go ahead and replace the disk?

Recommended Posts

I received a couple of email alerts from my server today.  The latest included the following text:

Event: unRAID Disk 4 SMART health [198]

Subject: Warning [NALBONEFS1] - offline uncorrectable is 2

Description: WDC_WD40EZRX-22SPEB0_WD-WCC4E5EVDZCA (sdc)

Importance: warning

Looks like I'm starting to lose sectors on this disk. I have a hot spare ready already precleared and connected in the server. Should I go head and replace this disk now?  What is the best procedure?  I have attached the SMART report for this disk.

Stop array. Assign replacement disk to slot of the disk you are replacing. DO NOT FORMAT anything. Start array will rebuild onto replacement disk. After rebuild completes do a non-correcting parity check to make sure everything went well. Then you can run some preclears on the old disk to see if you can clear the problem.
