February 15, 201610 yr I'm a newbie working on an unRAID build using Supermicro components for case and MB. My build thread is located here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45924.0 I have a SM 826E1-R800LPV case that includes a SM SAS3-826EL1 backplane. I'm mating that case with a SM X10SL7-F MB. The X10 MB has an onboard LSI 2308 controller. I'm using a CBL-0237L to connect the backplane to the motherboard. I have two WD Red SATA drives installed in the drive cage. I'm able to boot the machine ok but the LSI controller doesn't recognize the drives. I've done a bunch of research but haven't come up with a solution. Can anyone provide some guidance? Do I need a reverse breakout instead of the 0237L?

Yes, I believe you need a reverse breakout, because you are aggregating individual sata ports into an SAS port, not breaking out an SAS into individual sata ports.
