March 6, 201610 yr I'm at my wit's end! Nothing will respond via the browser gui but file shares are still being served. Attached are my diagnostic logs. Any help is greatly appreciated; I really don't want to hard boot it! Thank you. Peter
March 6, 201610 yr Do me a favour. Try this: - Jack your Network Cable out of the Back of the unRAID Server. - Wait 10 Seconds. - Plug it Back in. - Wait 10 Seconds. - Try and access the GUI or Command Line. This usually helps me when I have GUI responsiveness issues. I have to admit it tends to be Docker related freezes (I think anyway) BUT if you're not copying anything over the network then it's worth a shot.
March 6, 201610 yr Author Thank you for trying to help me out. I did as instructed, no change. GUI still unresponsive; terminal still responds normally.
March 6, 201610 yr Thank you for trying to help me out. I did as instructed, no change. GUI still unresponsive; terminal still responds normally. Ah, you're on the command line. Excellent. 1. Type "diagnostics" Press <enter> 2. You will see something like this: Tower login: root Linux 4.1.18-unRAID Last login Sunday Mar 6 10:24:09 +11:00 2016 on /devpts/2 from daniels-macbookair.danioj.lan root@Tower:~#diagnostics Starting diagnostics collection... done. ZIP file '/boot/logs/main-diagnostics-20160306-1024.zip' created. root@Tower:~# 3. Goto "\\Tower\flash\logs\" share on your unRAID Server from your Windows \ OSX \Linux machine and copy the diagnostics oil and save it to your computer. Post it here so we can have a look.
March 6, 201610 yr Author That's attached to my first post. My "tower" is called "library". Should I run it again?
March 6, 201610 yr That's attached to my first post. My "tower" is called "library". Should I run it again? Ah, sorry I didn't see that. Have a quick look I can see that disk ST32000542AS has issues: 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 094 094 036 Pre-fail Always - 262 262 Reallocated Sectors. Not a big deal in itself as long as they don't rise. It has been in use a fair time anyway. No pending sectors which is good. I also don't like: 187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 001 001 000 Old_age Always - 695 The "reported uncorrect" attribute is documented to mean "Number of errors that could not be corrected using hardware ECC." I am NOT sure about this one. You are at your threshold though. Looking at disk ST32000542AS there is an issue here: 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 200 156 000 Old_age Always - 4705 AFAIK this is a sign of a bad sata cable or a sata cable wrapped around a power wire. You could check this cable and or how it is positioned. 183 Runtime_Bad_Block 0x0032 001 001 000 Old_age Always - 7665 I have never seen this attribute before BUT from the Googling I have done - and there isn't a great deal of information - they are not deemed to be good. I saw a reference suggesting that a cable issue could have contributed to this poor value - but I truly don't know. For Disk: ST31500341AS you have 106 Reallocated Sectors: 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 098 098 036 Pre-fail Always - 106 You also have 2076 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count: 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 2076 This would suggest ANOTHER bad sata cable. Ill keep going here BUT I'm starting to wonder if I am reading these right OR there is an underlying issue here. Power / Controller Card / Cables? From what I have read - AND I have gone through them quickly - you have disk issues. I think it best that someone with a bit more experience come in and access the issues here. I wouldn't want to advise you and then send you down the wrong path. I think at very least you had best stop worrying about the fact that the GUI is unresponsive and wait for some advice. Don't hard reset. Sorry this is the best I can do.
March 6, 201610 yr Author Thank you for taking the time to look at it, I really appreciate it. I'll pop open the case and see if there's any noticeable wiring snafus. Otherwise, I'll wait to see if anyone else chimes in. Peter
March 6, 201610 yr Community Expert In the last diagnostics file posted the SMART reports for several of the disks are empty suggesting that they have dropped offline. You will probably have to power-cycle the system to get them back online. If you do that then please post a new diagnostic report. Do you have the powerdown plugin installed? If so then using the powerdown command from a telnet/ssh session is most likely to shut down the server successfully. However if anything is hanging badly you may have to resort to using the power button.
March 6, 201610 yr Author I had overlooked installing the powerdown plugin (have it on my v5 install) but it's moot - even the shutdown command wouldn't acknowledge. I ended up having to do a full power cycle to get it back online. I took a diagnostics as the very first action and it is attached. While you're glancing at that, I'm installing powerdown! Thank you.
March 7, 201610 yr Author Interestingly, the two drives that are starting to get SMART warnings/failures are the oldest drives in the system, ones brought over from my old WHS install. I'm working to take them out of the equation and retired now.
