How to reset/erase array?

Featured Replies

I've searched the forums and FAQ and wiki for this answer but can't find it.

How do I erase the whole array and reset it to factory configuation?

I plan on selling it and just want to make the configuration like new again.

The basic idea would be to reinitialize the flash drive first, then run Preclear on all of the hard drives.  To reinitialize the flash drive, just reformat it as was originally done, and then extract the basic unRAID distribution to it, and add the Preclear script.

ok thanks.

i just wasn't sure how the unique serial number worked if i  reformat the flash drive and reinstall. how does it know that I have a legal copy if it never asks me for a serial?

ok thanks.

Save a copy of the ".key" file elsewhere.  It will need to be replaced once you reformat and reload the flash drive.  Do be aware it has your name encrypted within it so the next owner will see who you originally registered as.

If you do not supply the ".key" file, it will act exactly like the free version, limiting the use to three drives only. (1 parity + 2 data)

The encrypted .key file has the hardware serial number of the flash drive in it.  re-formatting the flash drive will not change or erase its serial number.

The key file is probably in your "config" folder.  I don't know its exact name other that its suffix is ".key"  There is a possibility it is at the root folder of your flash drive as current versions of unRAID look for it in both locations. It might be named "pro.key" or plus.key" or even "joe.key" as the unRAID uses the first file it finds with the correct suffix, regardless of the full name.

ah that makes sense now.

thanks!

How about Fris.key? or maybe mon.key, don.key and off course for us computer types as.key. This posting is possibly ris.key, but I'm not bothered I've been drinking whis.key and smoking down the pub, I'm now feeling hus.key, smell a bit mus.key, apparently I'm being a bit pes.key. So I'm off for a fiddle on my Stravins.key and then might read some Dostoyevs.key be for it is time for beds.key. Apologies for the little joe.key couldnt resist.

I thank you and good night.  ;D

If you sell your server and/or Flash, you can have the new owner send an email to [email protected] and we will re-register the Flash in their name.
