Fan control script using seial numer instead of disk address

Featured Replies

I have 3x 5in3 disk Cages, and one 92mm fan connected to each Cage. And to Control the fan I've been using the fan script of version 0,5 found here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5548.105 3scripts for the 3 fans. And its working great! But yesterday when i was doing a paritycheck, the temerature got upp to 42°C on a couple of disks, and one of the fans were blowing at full speed. The problem was that the address of some of the disks had changed. I haven't added or removed any disks, they are connected the same way now as when i setup the script.

After adjusting the addresses to the right Cages, and waiting 10 minutes, the fan were blowing at 1700rpm (insted of 3700rpm on the "wrong" fan),  and the temp were at around 36°C.

Is there any way to use serial number of other unique identifier to Control the fans? Or is there an even better way of doing this without the script?

You can use /dev/disk/by-id/ symbolic links instead of /dev/[hs]d devices.

OR you can use the Dynamix AutoFan plugin that can be found here.

Thanks i'll try the /dev/disk/by-id method.

I have tried the auto fan plugin, but can you get it to work with different fan for different disks? I want it to use 5 disks to 1 fan and 5 other disks to next fan.

edit: Works great just change /dev/sdb to /dev/disk/by-id/***disk-id*** (To get disk id type "ls -l /dev/disk/by-id") Thanks again!
