March 26, 201610 yr So, I'm trying to move unRAID into a new box and picked up a Supermicro 846E16-R1200B (with the BPN-SAS2-846EL1 backplane) and a X8DTE-F motherboard. The system came with an Adaptec ASR-5805 controller. I followed the instructions here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=40684.msg384320 and it said all my drives were wrong. I moved everything back into my tower and ordered a IBM M1015 crossflashed to LSI 9211-8i firmware P19 IT mode. Today when I got the chance to hook it up and power it on, it doesn't find any drives. Everything still works fine in the tower so it's not a problem with the drives themselves. Do I have a dead M1015 or is there some BIOS config that needs to be done for it to pass the drives to unRAID?

If you are, are you sure it's cross flashed? Go to tools --> devices in the webgui and post the output here.
March 26, 201610 yr Also make sure you have the correct cables, you need forward breakout, reverse breakout cables look the same and will fit but it won't detect any disks.
March 26, 201610 yr Author No, nothing during power up about the M1015. The backplane has 2 mini-sas ports like the card so I got SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cables. I don't believe there's a forward/reverse distinction with those

If you don't find that option in the bios, it's probably always shown. Are there any lights on the card when you boot? Not sure if there are any lights, but others might know.

Ok, I see a single green led blinking steadily on the M1015 and Option ROM is enabled on all slots. Nothing about the M1015 shows up during POST. I have the Adaptec card in too and it shows up during post
March 26, 201610 yr LSI IT mode can be flashed with or without bios, on unRAID go to tools > system devices and see if the controller is detected there.
March 26, 201610 yr Author LSI IT mode can be flashed with or without bios, on unRAID go to tools > system devices and see if the controller is detected there. I could be missing it, but I don't see it. I see the Adaptec card so I would assume it would show up immediately before or after that
March 26, 201610 yr Author I can try it in an old desktop later.. Right now I have a 2 year old running amok. The seller is saying it might be my motherboard that's the problem. I know I've seen people here using supermicro hardware.. Anyone with an X8DTE-F mobo and a M1015 working together?
March 26, 201610 yr Author Well, it looks like my Windows 7 desktop sees it, but I couldn't find where it tells me what firmware is installed.. Guess it's not compatible with the mobo for some reason? Update: seems to be recognized now after flashing mobo BIOS. In case anyone else has an issue and searches, M1015 will work with Supermicro X8DTE-F after flashing the motherboard BIOS to v2.0c (mine was 2.0a)
