madpoet
I see a lot of people doing Win10, but I would like to create my home lab DC on KVM and then use a different server as my ESX host with all the test VMs. Does anyone have any tips for a Server 2012 install? Quote Link to comment
billington.mark
Its pretty much the same process for all Windows VMs. You'll need to have the ISO mounted with the virtio drivers and select them during the install. Quote Link to comment
cbarnes01
I too am interested in a server 2012 R2 vm. The problem I've ran across is that it never finds the hard drive to install windows on, even after supplying the virtio drivers. Anyone ran into this issue with server 2012 R2? Quote Link to comment
Ja9
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard VM on unraid 6.2 Beta.. Running in UEFI (OVMF Bios) mode, but it is not 100% stable.. Sometimes it just crashes right after loading.. but after a reboot it's fine again. I tried it on 6.1.9 to.. but there I could not manage to install it in UEFI mode.. I came to where you need to load iostor driver, and it found the drive.. but failed to make partitions.. and suddenly there where partions there.. but could not manage to install to them, or delete them.. But in BIOS (SeaBios) mode, it worked just fine. Have not tried to use bios mode on 6.2.. So UEFI might be the problem. Quote Link to comment
Rob_NZ
I have the server 2016 preview 4 running in an unRaid vm. I used the virtio-win-0.1.113.iso virtio drivers - selecting 2012 R2. Memory 2GB, i440fx-2.5, SeaBIOS, VNC driver QXL. Works quite well. I followed the order of virtio driver installation from Step 5 here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_6/VM_Management#Step_5:_Install_the_VirtIO_drivers_from_inside_the_VM_.28Windows_Guests_Only.29 Quote Link to comment
