Upgrades - CPU

Featured Replies

Hi, currently I'm running on a

ASUS A88X-Plus, Socket-FM2+ motherboard,

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 4GB CL9 RAM,

and a CPU

AMD A4-6320

Socket-FM2, Dual Core, 3.8GHz, 1MB, 65W, HD8370D, Boxed w/fan

I am currently considering upgrading my CPU to

AMD A10-7890K Black Edition .

Will this be a huge upgrade for me? Will my PlexMediaServer become (alot?) more stable when I run it off of Chromecast?

The CPU has been running fine for a while, but now it spikes to 95-98% with a single chromecast plex running.

Should I also upgrade my RAM? Or is it enough, its between 20-30% used.

And will it ruin my unraid license when I upgrade the cpu? Do I need to get a new key?

You can compare the different CPUs and APUs here: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

You won't need to do anything with your unRAID licence if you upgrade. It isn't tied to the server hardware, but the USB device itself.

just FYI my amd x4 phenom is not as good as your AMD A10-7890K Black Edition and i haven't had any complaints regarding plex transcoding to chromecast devices so you should be golden.

Your RAM is probably fine.  Plex needs lots of CPU but is pretty efficient on memory.
