Dynamic DNS not working in China

Featured Replies

I use OpenVPN plugins for unRaid to allow me to connect remotely to the LAN from outside the network.  In the USA a Dynamic DNS keeps the changing WAN IP address manageable.  In this location, the WAN IP address changes once per day.  But, in China, all Dynamic DNS providers are banned by the Great Firewall of China.  So the excellent duckdns docker cannot update the ddns record.

Can anyone think of a solution to this?

Possibilities

1. Add a Great Firewall busting VPN to the router in China.  (adds complexity and is likely to break constantly and require maintenance)

2. eMail out the current China server IP address on a daily basis.  (but the .opvn client file has the server ip address baked inside it)

3. Create my own dynamic dns (uggh, and likely it will get banned quickly in China)

4. Get a static IP address (with China Telecommunications internet, the additional cost is unbearable)

So, both endpoints are in China? The only thing I can think of would be to run a VPN server outside China, and have both machines connect to it as clients. I believe you can have client to client communication fairly easily, but it's likely to be even slower than what you have now.

No, one computer is in China, the other in USA.  I want China to be the server to allow ad-hoc connections from different machines in various locations.

I have successfully had China be the client and connect to a USA server, but I cannot depend on the connection to remain up with the China IP address changing daily.
