USB not booting after unplugging from server

Featured Replies

Shut the setup down, unplugged the usb, but neither linux nor windows (nor the server for that matter) refuse to mount the usb:

dmesg on mount:

[ 2650.677672] FAT-fs (sdd1): utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!
[ 2650.678251] FAT-fs (sdd1): bogus number of reserved sectors
[ 2650.678255] FAT-fs (sdd1): Can't find a valid FAT filesystem

$ sudo strings /dev/sdd1:

1) How screwed am I?

2) Any way to install unraid onto hdd?

1) Not very. Your data should be OK but you might have to format your flash and do a fresh install if you don't have a backup of it.

2) No.

Whoever finds themselves in the same problem - got it sorted out by rebuilding boot sector with utility called testdisk. (note the usb's filesystem was fat32 as per limetech's recommendation)
