January 3, 201016 yr Hi, I've been using 4.5b6 for months with no trouble, and I just noticed that 4.5 came out for real, so I decided to upgrade.. I downloaded and installed the new software, and now I get: VFS: unable to mount fs on root unknown-block(8,1) It kernel panics and gives me a "call trace" and just freezes.. Putting back the beta fixes the problem... Was there a USB driver removed or something during the beta testing? Anyone else seen this? Thanks! -Steve
January 3, 201016 yr Most likely you had an issue when transferring the new bzroot/bzimage to the flash drive. I'm not sure if you need to redo the syslinux portion or not. I'll see if I can find the post Joe L talked about this.
January 3, 201016 yr If 4.5b6 is working off your flash key, then you don't need to redo the syslinux thing. All you need is to replace the bzroot/bzimage files. You don't even need to unplug your flash key from your server for that. As BRiT pointed out, it's most likely you got a corrupt bzroot or bzimage file. Or, maybe you unplugged the flash key from the server and replaced the files on a windows machine? If that's the case, then make sure you "properly" remove the flash key from windows, using that "safely remove hardware" thingie. Purko ___ Edit: Quote from Limetech's Upgrade Instructions: If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.2-beta1 or higher (including 4.2.x 'final'), please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot If you are currently running unRAID server 4.0 or 4.1, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot syslinux.cfg menu.c32 memtest This can be done either by plugging the Flash into your PC or, by copying the files to the 'flash' share on your running server. The server must then be rebooted.
February 5, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the responses, and sorry for the delay - I thought i'd get an email if someone responded, and I didn't, so it's not till I have another problem that I came back around here... As for this trouble, I did load the files via windows the first time, and know that the syslinux part is OK since I can just rename / move the files back, and it works again.. I am pretty sure I tried the second time by moving the files in via \\server\flash method, but I'll try it again, and I'll download them again, just in case I got a corrupted download... Thanks!-Steve
