Unraid migration from Windows server

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new here... Thinking of getting unraid to replace my windows server 2012 machine running amd fm2 5800 I got 4 sata drives ntfs (1x2tb 2x1tb 1x160gb 1x500gb) and USB 3.0 drives (3x2tb 1x5tb) it's running mainly as Nas + some vm's + TV tuner server also has a bcm5709 dual Nic running in lacp

My main question is will the dual nic lacp and the USB 3.0 hdd  work well?  Not that concerned about the tuners I can probably pass them to a vm since they are usb and use that like before....

I really want to use the USB 3.0 hdd's since they are my main storage and don't want to remove them from the enclosures since I'll loose warranty...

Please advise...

From the configuration you noted, it seems you are NOT implementing any fault tolerance in your 2012 server setup (the drive mix you mentioned doesn't sound like you have any RAID arrays defined).

Are you planning to add additional drives to implement fault tolerance if you move to UnRAID?    If not, then what do you hope to gain from UnRAID?

Yep I don't use raid... Got burned in the past... And I don't need the performance.... Single drive performance is fine with me ~150mb/s...

I want to implement more services on the machine and it has become a chore to add anything to it.

also the fault tolerance from the parity drive seems a little easier to swallow, while the drives remain independent....

So what you think will it work...?

My main question is will the dual nic lacp and the USB 3.0 hdd  work well?

Dual NIC LACP is supported, USB 3.0 disks are supported as array or cache devices starting with v6.2-beta, they can be used on previous versions using the unassigned devices plugin, but not as array or cache devices.

Thanks for your answer

Is there an easy way to migrate the ntfs drives?

You can use them outside of the array with the unassigned devices plugin, they have to be formatted to be assigned as array or cache devices.
