August 5, 20169 yr Hi folks, I have a VM running a DVR server on my unRAID box. Currently I only view the video via a mobile app and a web interface so the only time I need to actually connect directly to the (Windows 10) VM is for basic maintenance and I do this using RDP and/or the unRAID GUI VNC Remote. I was thinking about putting up a monitor on a wall that shows the live video streams 24/7 - basically I just want it to show the app running in full screen on the Windows desktop. Adding a video card and passing it through to the VM so I can directly connect a monitor seems like a logical choice... however before I do this I wanted to confirm one thing: If I have the app visible on this monitor connected to the passthrough video card, then what will happen if I try to RDP/VNC into the VM? I still plan on using RDP/VNC for maintenance purposes... but I recall that if you RDP into a Windows box while another session is running then that session will be logged out? In this case then I will end up seeing a Windows lock screen on the monitor correct? And to get it back to the way it was after finishing my RDP session I assume that I would then also need to use a keyboard/mouse which are also passed through to the VM to log back into Windows? If that's the case then this strategy will not work but I wanted to see if anyone could please confirm that this would be the expected behaviour before I proceed? Thank you!
August 5, 20169 yr What you need is to install a VNC server or teamviewer host in the Windows 10 install. Instead of specifying the unraid IP and VM port in your VNC client, you would specify the VM's IP and whatever port you use for the VNC server.
August 5, 20169 yr There are some registry hacks to allow rdp to utilize the current session instead of creating a new one. But team viewer is the easiest solution Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk
