August 5, 20169 yr Hi folks, I'm a totally noob. I've got VM1 running fine, even played BF4 and run 3Dmark successfully. My confidence was high going on to VM2. The only difference is assigning different cores and my second GPU which is a 780. However, when ever I try to start it, I get this error: internal error: early end of file from monitor: possible problem: 2016-08-05T10:19:13.846726Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=84:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: vfio: error opening /dev/vfio/45: Operation not permitted 2016-08-05T10:19:13.846758Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=84:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: vfio: failed to get group 45 2016-08-05T10:19:13.846771Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=84:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: Device initialization failed 2016-08-05T10:19:13.846782Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=84:00.0,bus=root.1,addr=00.0,multifunction=on,x-vga=on: Device 'vfio-pci' could not be initialized Below are my specs: ASUS Z9PE WS DUAL motherboard 2 x Xeon 2670 2 x 780 32 gb of RAM Please can you help?
August 5, 20169 yr You need 3 GPU! 1 first VM 1 second VM 1 Unraid system And you cant passthrough the first pci-e slot to vm with nvidia gpu's.
October 4, 20169 yr Going to bump this, I have 2 970s and a plain vanilla gefore 620 that I wish to use for unraid. Due to slot placement and other things, I need the 970s in pciex_1 and pciex_3, the 620 in another slot. I know there's been some work with having 1 gpu for a vm (solo) and having unraid headless, would this apply in this configuration too?

The single Nvidia GPU fix should apply as it's basically the same issue. Or get a PCI VGA GPU and set your motherboard to prefer PCI over PCI-E for GPU used on boot.
October 5, 20169 yr Another alternative is to plan around having integrated graphics, but then you are limited to some Xeon E3 parts and motherboards equipped with IGP ports. I see that as the affordable solution anyway, since the E5 and E7 parts look super expensive to me.
October 5, 20169 yr Give this a go - way to pass through first card https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=43644.msg452464#msg452464
