August 8, 20169 yr Hi everyone, I am not sure would I post this kind of question in this...but I have no choice to find solution for my supermicro motherboard IPMI problem.... my configuration is X11SSZ-QF + i7 6700. I cannot ping / use web browser / IPMI viwer to get through it.... even through I attach all three port of the motherboard to my router.... please help... :( :'(
August 8, 20169 yr IPMI has its own IP address which is different than the motherboard's IP. On the mac, I use LanScan to list out the IPs on my network sorted by the manufacturer of the device. The supermicro board will show up on the list twice. One of them is for IPMI, and the other is for the motherboard. Alternatively, you can use IPMIview which you can download from Supermicro. It will take a range of IP addresses and tell you which ones are IPMI.
August 8, 20169 yr Author Tried to use supermicro IPMIview but no result .... Does it be related to "Failover" IPMI Lan selection found in the BIOS?
August 8, 20169 yr I don't know if the the X11 is the same, I have some from the X9 series and in the bios there's an option to choose the IPMI IP address: IPMI -> BCM configuration
August 8, 20169 yr Author Thanks. but I have set below configuration already: IPMI LAN Selection: Failover IMPI Network Link Status: Dedicated LAN Configuration Address Source: Static Station MAC Address: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx Station IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Subnet Mask: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Gateway IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx But still not work...
August 8, 20169 yr Author I tried also to set DHCP and use supermicro to search ip range.... not work as well...
August 8, 20169 yr Thanks. but I have set below configuration already: IPMI LAN Selection: Failover IMPI Network Link Status: Dedicated LAN Configuration Address Source: Static Station MAC Address: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx Station IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Subnet Mask: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Gateway IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx But still not work... When set to static you have to specify the IP adress, subnet mask and gateway.
August 8, 20169 yr Author I have set IP address, gateway, and subset mask ...but just mark them as "x" in the forum... haha"
August 8, 20169 yr On my board the IP for IPMI is listed on the initial power on, and always on reboot prior to POST completing. If it is listed as 0.0.0.0 or X.X.X.X you know you have an issue resolving the IP address for the IPMI LAN connection. Do you have any status lights on the NIC for this LAN connection? If not, this is likely hardware related, swap cables with your other LAN port and see if this changes.
