August 12, 20169 yr I have downloaded version 6.1.9-x86_64.zip onto a flash drive formatted FAT32. When I start the computer from the flash drive it fails to get a DHCL address. When I modified the network configuration to use a static IP if fails to connect to the network. This computer runs Windows 7 on the network with no problem. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-EP45_UDR3R/UD3. It is running an AMD cpu with 8 cores. The motherboard has 16G of ram. When running the unRAID the monitor of the computer goes along and finishes with a “Tower login:”. At this point the keyboard is nonfunctional. Any help you can give me on this would be helpful.
August 12, 20169 yr Couple of Questions: First, did you try both RJ-45 ports on the MB? (unRAID is a bit funny about how it assigns the single port that it will use when it first boots!) You may want to just plug cables from your switch into both ports before booting. Second, are you using a PS2 keyboard (preferred since you have a PS2 connector) or a USB keyboard? If you have to use an USB keyboard, check the BIOS to see if you can turn off the PS2 port. If you get a keyboard working, login on the console and type diagnostics . That will write a diagnostics file into the logs folder of the unRAID Flash Drive. Attached that file to a new post in this thread. The path that you see on the monitor is the path to that same file through the console. EDIT: Your MB PN is for an Intel based processor, not an AMD... PLEASE check and correct your post!
August 12, 20169 yr Author I am sorry I posted the wrong motherboard. The motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. There is only 1 RJ45 connector on the motherboard. I had my keyboard connected using a KVMS switch. When I plugged the keyboard in directly it worked. I was able to generate the log file and have attached it. Thanks for helping me. tower-diagnostics-20160812-0248.zip
August 12, 20169 yr Make sure that you have plugged your Flash Drive into a USB2 port---- NOT a USB3 port! That have been numerous instances of Flash Drives getting 'lost' during the boot process in stalled in the USB3 ports.
August 12, 20169 yr Author Moved to a USB 2.0 port. Had some different logging on the screen, but final result was still unable to get an IP address from my DHCP server.
August 12, 20169 yr I looked through your log and it appears that you are not getting a answer to the server's request for DHCP service. You might want to double-check that CAT5E/6 cable between the server and the switch/router. Also double-check that the activity leds on both ends of that cable are doing their proper thing.
August 12, 20169 yr Author I found that the BIOS setting IOMMU setting was disabled. When I enabled that setting the system booted. However when I go the http:\\Tower website and try to get a trial key I get the message Sorry, an error (406) occurred registering USB Flash GUID ABCD-1234-0000-0000000000? The error is: GUID 'ABCD-1234-0000-0000000000?' is not valid Not sure how I can change the GUID of the flash drive.

What the problem is that the UBS Flash Drive that you have is either very cheap or a counterfeit one. The last group of numbers will be non zero and that group of four letters will not be ABCD. The GUID must be a unique series of letters and numbers. (unRAID will only allow one GUID to ever be registered.) Reputable manufacturers will always have a unique GUID for every one of their products. You really want to use a quality name brand Flash Drive for your USB boot drive! unRAID has suggested a couple of brands (as I recall) but any of the big names in memory products are good choices.
August 12, 20169 yr Author I have swapped the flash drive out. The new drive worked. The drive that didn't work was given to my by a supplier. Thank you for your response. This should serve to close this thread
