Key server

Featured Replies

I am a new user of unraid and was hoping it to use it to replace my NAS and Hyper V Win 2012 r2 server.  The NAS bit seem to work fine (and Docker) and after some work managed to get Sophos UTM working as a VM.

This is where I have hit a snag.

As the UTM is the connection to the internet  it won't start as Unraid won't start the array (and so start the VM to connect to the internet)  because it can't contact the Key server.

I am a bit surprised that UNRaid HAS to have a internet connection to start and I feel I've wasted a few days testing it.

So if I have a power outage and the internet is down but the server is up it still can't be used?

Which version are you on? Allegedly only Trial versions of the software (and old beta versions) do the phone-home check.

That could be the reason  - I'm still on a trial but I don't want to cough up $59 for something that doesn't work for me. I couldn't see anywhere that it doesn't do this with a licensed version though.

from the wiki

Cannot contact key-server

If your server is unable to contact our key server to validate your license, you will not be able to start the array. The server will attempt to validate upon first boot with a timeout of 30 sec. If it can't validate upon first boot, then the array won't start, but each time you navigate or refresh the webGui it will attempt validation again (with a very short timeout). Once validated, it won't phone-home for validation again unless rebooted.

if someone could confirm that isn't the case with a non trial version I'd be grateful.

Thanks for that I understand know.  I'd have never have found that through a search as it hadn't occurred to me to search for "phone home".  (as the Key Server isn't mentioned.)
