February 2, 201016 yr Note that this is the LP (low power) version that spins at 5900 RPM (Not 5400 RPM). Specs on power usage: Idle: 4.30 W Operating (average): 6.80 W Spinup: 2.0A (peak) Here is a link to the drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148412&Tpk=N82E16822148412
February 2, 201016 yr Author As long as it isn't the parity drive this would't cause much of a performance problem would it? I currently have 4 of these (7200 rpm version) and was thinking of getting another but I have no room to put it in my server. So I hate to get it if I can't use it and test it right away.
February 2, 201016 yr No, there shouldn't be any problem with using this as a data drive. Your parity checks will be a bit slower during the time that the 5900 rpm drive is being read, but then again, upgrading your server's capacity by 1.5 TBs will result in a longer parity check time anyway. In short, don't worry about it. The only reason I'm avoiding this drive is due to all the bad reviews it has gotten. Look at all those DOAs! Guess I'm just a WD fanboy

As long as it is used as a data drive you will be fine. Your parity generate/checks will drop slightly, but that will also happen for every new drive you put in the system.
February 2, 201016 yr Author I will think about it, like I said I can't fit it in my server right now any way. Waiting for some more RB-1200's to become available. I could put it in my PC to test it I suppose but that is just extra hassle.
