ASM 1061/1062 working for anyone?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have an ASM 1061/2 based sata card working successfully with Unraid 6.2?

I know this isn't a preferred config due to performance issues but I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing the same issues as I am.

Drives connected to the card (through a multiplier) work great for a few hours and then suddenly error and eventually completely disappear from the OS.

If anyone is successfully using this chip I'll continue to troubleshoot firmware and drivers. If not, I guess I'll try my (crappy) old SIL 3132 based card.

It's used by a lot of people without a port multiplier , including myself, without issues, don't remember anyone here using it with a multiplier and read somewhere that it can have issues with it.

I'm using a ASM 1062R based board. Not had any hint of problems.

I'm getting the distinct sense that port multiplying is bad.  :) I thought it was just bad for performance but it's sounding like it just isn't compatible with Linux/unraid.

Too bad considering it worked great for me with my previous Windows/Flexraid solution with external enclosures. I can't add more drives internally due to power limitations...not sure where to go from here.

How many drives are you trying to run, and why the port multiplier?  Is the multiplier built in to something?

I've found the least bothersome SATA cards are Marvell based.

I use an external box containing four disks and a port multiplier in conjunction with a 6 Gb/s eSATA card to provide more storage for my HP Microserver Gen8. The card is a Marvell 9235-based four-port controller (two internal ports and two external) by IOCREST/SYBA. Details are here: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=50998.msg489938#msg489938

Thanks for this. I'll see if I can run down a Marvell 9235 based card somewhere. Not a huge fan of ebay...

I got mine from Amazon (UK).
