Hitachi Deskstar 2TB 3.5" 32MB Buffer, 7200RPM - $134.99 AR FS at Newegg

This works out better for me than the current Fry's deal since I have to pay tax at Fry's.  It's ~$16 cheaper for me with the rebate or about $4 more without the rebate, so even if for some reason I don't get the rebate, it is worth it not having to drive 20 miles to my local Fry's.

Retail packaging is a plus.  I have bought HDDs from Newegg and mWave in the past week and their bulk drive packaging continues to suck.

Invariably, they will do a single wrap of bubble wrap where one edge of the drive is at the seam riding at the bottom of the box which gives me zero confidence that the drive is undamaged.

It seems that it would be in the best interest of the manufacturers to supply a small shipping enclosure around their bulk drives before shipping them to resellers.  I'm sure they end up eating most of these DOA drives, not newegg.

Anyone have benchmarks on these drives? How fast are they compared to the 1.5tb seagates?

Give me some commands to run and when I get home tonight I will see what I can do.  I have 2 of these in my system (1 parity, 1 data).

Don't forget 2% BCB
