thx for the tipp

after 2 hours of memtest, the system didnt throw me errors.

after 5 days with mostly idle, it crashed again.

i took out one 2GB stick.

it crashed within the hour

i switched out the sticks, took out the other one, now it runs fine with only 2 gigs of ram for 14 days now.

after all, it seems one of the sticks was the problem, and memtest is useless at testing ram :)

thanks, i think i'll buy 2x4gb for the server

and memtest is useless at testing ram :)

It's not useless, can find the most common issues, but development on that version has pretty well ceased.  Two different development teams took over the original Memtest code, one stayed open source but couldn't continue.  That's the version included with unRAID.  The other team was PassMark, and they have continued on, with newer technologies handled, and more advanced ways of detecting memory issues.  They still provide it free for personal use, but because it's a commercial product, it can't be included with unRAID.  PassMark requires you to create bootable media (USB or CD) with it.  I wouldn't be surprised if it found issues with your bad RAM, that the other couldn't.
