December 13, 20169 yr Unraid version 6.1.6. Did some reading about 6.2 and 6.2.4. I have a very barebones system (I just use whatever is default). I backed up 6.1.6 and then didn't know I WASN'T required to reformat the USB stick. I reformatted USB stick, then downloaded 6.2.4 onto it. Ran the "makebootable" file (using directions on Lime-Tech main page "getting started"). Realized my USB registration key wasn't there but found registration file on old 6.1.6 and copied it to new 6.2.4. Since my USB stick is the same physical disk it doesn't seem to be an issue? Question I have (before I do something stupid). I have serial numbers of all drives and their placements from old setup and I am very careful to assign parity to correct location, but when I picked the parity drive to assign to the parity slot I saw "ALL DATA ON THIS DISK WILL BE ERASED WHEN ARRAY IS STARTED"....I haven't touched a thing and came here first... 1) What to do? 2) Is it because I FORMATTED USB stick? instead of just deleting 6.1.6 and copying 6.2.4 to it? Thank you for help...
December 13, 20169 yr Community Expert You should just copy the whole config folder from your backup then you won't have to assign your disks or configure anything.
December 13, 20169 yr Author Did clean power down (without assigning anything), took USB stick back to my other PC and did like you said. I copied (and overwrite) whole config folder. Still same thing as in the attached picture "ALL DATA ON THIS DISK WILL BE ERASED WHEN ARRAY IS STARTED"...? I tried selecting Parity 1 and parity 2 but it was same for both. Is it because 6.1.6 only had 1 parity option and now this has 2? I am just afraid to lose data. What did I do wrong? and how to get myself out of this mess I caused myself? Thank you again...
December 13, 20169 yr Community Expert That's just a warning so users make sure they're not assigning a data disk to the parity slot. Make sure your parity is assigned to the first parity slot, it won't be valid as parity2, before starting the array check the box "parity is already valid" to avoid a parity sync.
December 14, 20169 yr Author Thank you very much....I have read over the years of people making mistakes and how the first step should have been "ask us first so we can prevent you from losing data".
