December 15, 20169 yr I am trying to run Joe L's preclear script under 6.2.4. The syntax I am using is: preclear_disk.sh -c 3 /dev/sdh The result is a listing of the help text plus some more text about 'Available columns', then: "For more details see sfdisk{8}. Sorry: Device /dev/sdh is busy.: 1" Can anyone tell me what is going wrong? If I use preclear_disk.sh -l, that tells me that sdh is unassigned and available for preclearing. ukutlxd01-diagnostics-20161215-2018.zip
December 15, 20169 yr Is it the original or the patched version of the script? I'll try to find the link to the patch. EDIT: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=13054.msg464653#msg464653 You could use the pre-clear plugin, which works out of the box.
December 15, 20169 yr Author It is version 1.15, date : 05.04.2014 from Joe L's announcement page: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2817.0 I assume this is the latest.
December 15, 20169 yr It needs to be patched to work with unRAID 6.2 or newer. I found the link and added it to my previous post.
December 15, 20169 yr Author Thank you for that. Would it be possible to add a warning to the original Joe L. announcement https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2817.0 to prevent someone else falling into the same trap? EDIT: On my copy of Putty, I can't paste or type lines longer than about 56 characters without them overwriting the start of the current line. I have tried switching off Autowrap, but that doesn't fix it. Does anyone have a work-around for that? EDIT 2: I set Autowrap back on and ticked the box "Implicit LF in every CR" Also, regarding using the plugin, I thought one still had to provide a copy of Joe's script oneself, since he has not agreed to it being distributed with a plugin.
December 15, 20169 yr I agree that a warning ought to be added but I'm unable to edit another person's post. Perhaps a Moderator could do it. Personally, I use gfjardim's Pre-clear plugin and his own modern (and fast) built-in script. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=39985.0
December 17, 20169 yr You can usually extend a bash command onto another line by typing a backslash (\) before pressing the return key to move on to the next line. As a trivial example, to split ls -lR /mnt/user across two lines you might type ls -lR \ /mnt/user The author of the Preclear plugin wrote his own script, which is included in the plugin, and works faster than the original and works with unRAID 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 without needing to be patched. If you want to use one of the alternatives you can install it yourself and it gets added to a drop down menu. December 18, 20169 yr Author Thanks for the replies, John_M. I took your advice and have used gfjardim's Pre-clear plugin. Since the pre-clear is such an important utility, I was reluctant to use something new without having some view of its reliability. It certainly seems to run well and I like the email notifications keeping me abreast of its progress.
