December 21, 20169 yr So I upgraded my main unraid server with about 12 hard drives, in the process of this my cache drive failed. My question is what would be the best way to back up a cache drive so that it could be restored at a later date? could I set up a share on the same server and backup everything to a user share? (Also I do have dual cache drives on this machine) I had the unique opportunity to build another unraid machine which I wanted to turn into an HTPC box, could create user shares on each Unraid box to back up the cache drive of the other box? Any suggestions would be great
December 21, 20169 yr Community Expert Assuming you are using a raid1 (the default) cache pool, it is already redundant. Even so a backup is worthwhile. There has been at least one thread about this. See How to Search in my sig.
December 21, 20169 yr Hello My suggestion would be to use rsync and cron jobs to do your backups, you can even do them manually easily with "rsync -av /path/to/location /path/to/location, this is a great way to do backups without being locked into any particular program or proprietary format, just a simple copy of whatever your backing up in another location, i use it to backup to my secondary nas via the unassigned plugin and the schedulers plugin, works a treat.
